Younger Years Early Learning Center – Growing Years Early Learning Centers offer childcare for children from birth to age 5 in a safe and nurturing learning environment. Growing Years Early Learning Centers are located in Bedford and Johnstown.

Our centers offer childcare in a faith-based environment. While encouraging the development of mind, body and social self, the curriculum encourages each child’s creativity and teaches kindergarten readiness skills. Our consistent rules help promote self-discipline.

Active learning experiences, field trips, playgrounds and other outdoor activities and rest periods encourage the overall development of each child during days filled with learning, laughter and personal expression. Each location offers something different, but all include professionally trained staff to provide age-appropriate activities in toddler learning areas and preschool classrooms to help children learn and stay engaged.

All childcare team members have educational training, ongoing professional development and experience with children. They are also certified in pediatric first aid and are state licensed.

Our Growing Years Early Learning Centers are licensed by the Department of Human Services and the PA Office of Child Development and Early Learning, a division of the Department of Human Services.

Financial assistance is available to those who meet income criteria through the Child Care Information Service office and United Way scholarships (Bedford County only).

In addition to providing quality care and education to 628 children of low-income factory workers over the past five years, ELC has become a beacon of support for the local community – through Covid and natural disasters – providing food, shelter, and care for young and old.

Throughout the month-long mandatory closure of ELC during the pandemic, ELC teachers worked tirelessly to provide ELC’s 252 children with love and care each day. They went online to keep children engaged in play and learning, and helped parents who lost their jobs, providing food packages and moral support.

Despite the obstacles many children and families face living in resource-rich communities in Vietnam, there are many stories of hope that inspire us every day.

When Binh’s parents arrived in Da Nang several years ago to find work, they had no choice but to leave her with an untrained home care provider (HBC) who lacked the knowledge and support to care for so many children. safe and encouraging care. take care

In the HBC, Binh was considered a “naughty child”. He was often removed from playing with other children and spent a lot of time sitting on the “naughty step.” With no emotional guidance or care, Binh’s behavior worsened.

Eventually, her parents heard about our responsive-care curriculum. They applied for Binh and his brother to attend the ELC and were delighted when the two brothers were accepted. Tragically, shortly after joining Binh’s mother was diagnosed with tongue cancer and was forced to take long-term sick leave from the electrical factory where she worked. This left the entire family dependent on the meager income Binh’s father received from a beverage factory.

As two very bright children, interested in science and math, the brothers thrived at the ELC despite the strain on the family and their difficult living environment.

Under the care of his teachers, Binh’s behavior improved greatly. Focusing on his needs, with time and care, they came to understand how to better help develop Binh’s potential. He is now thriving in public elementary school.

And Binh’s younger brother, Sang, has just joined him. He grew up knowing his mother was terminally ill, and ELC was his whole world for five years. And, while she’s sad to leave her teachers behind, Sang couldn’t be more excited to enter elementary school.

It has been a very difficult five years for the family and the boy’s father is eternally grateful that his children received the best possible care he could have hoped for.

For more than 30 years, Maureen Fontaine has run a licensed daycare business out of her home in Fairfield. He almost retired in 2020 after losing both his parents to this COVID, but decided to stay open.
