If you want to stay in Yellowstone – which we recommend – there are a few options. Staying in the park makes the whole experience different. Become more immersed in the park and the Yellowstone lifestyle.
He has to ride in and out of the park every day. But note that this means you may not have good cell service all the time. That’s not a bad thing on vacation!
Usa National Parks Vacation Packages, Tours, & Trips
You can book the Yellowstone Hotel or Yellowstone Lodge for next year starting May 1st. So on May 1, 2023, people were booking for July and August 2024. So catch the early ones!
Prices vary. If you’re willing to have a cabin with a shared bathroom (kind of like camping but you stay in a bed!) then you’ll pay less. If you want a cabin with a bathroom, it is more. Decide how much time you plan to spend at the resort/cabin and make a decision accordingly.
The same is true if you want to stay at a campground or RV park. Note, however, that the first arrivals also came to serve the campgrounds. But these campgrounds don’t have hookups for your RV – you can stay here, but you’ll be (without hookups).
I know I said stay in the park. But if you can’t make a reservation inside the park, know that the towns outside the park are also very beautiful and I recommend you visit them even if you don’t stay.

Cody’s town will be far away. If you are really thinking of exploring Yellowstone, we recommend Gardiner or West Yellowstone.
We recommend a week because it gives you the opportunity to visit and enjoy the park during your Yellowstone vacation to breathe and really get out. Yellowstone is like visitors to Disney World who have an agenda and are knocking everything out as fast as possible.
When you do that, you miss a lot about the experience and atmosphere of the park. We actually recommend 2 weeks – but understand that’s not always possible for people. But if you can swing it, then do it!

I know, a lot of moving around, but it’s a short distance and you won’t spend much time in your room. Doing so allows you to see and experience more of the park.
Also, if you can stay for more than a week, you can spread your time in each place.
Note that Yellowstone is huge and it can take up to 3 hours to drive from one entrance to the other. Maybe 4 if there is a buffalo or bear sighting near the road.
By staying in multiple places, it allows you to avoid spending a lot of time in the car every day. In addition, you can better immerse yourself in the park environment while staying there.
Ultimate Yellowstone National Park Guide And Itinerary
If you are not staying in the park, we recommend staying in Gardiner or West Yellowstone. And since these are relatively close to each other, you can choose only one for home base. That being said, if you don’t mind moving, you can spend half your time in Gardiner and half your time in West Yellowstone and plan Yellowstone Park trips in these areas.
You can really visit the park at any time of the year! And each season brings something different to the experience.
Spring – bear cubs! Need we say more?! But it can also be cold and snowy and not everything is open.
Fall – this is our favorite time to go. Even if it’s busy, everything should still be open. And you might experience a brief snowstorm while you’re there! Yellow stone is covered with snow.
National Parks Where You Can Have An Unforgettable Summer Vacation
Winter – a completely different experience that we haven’t tried yet. But they’ve heard from Yellowstone staff that it’s their favorite time to be in the park and it’s just magical.
Bring cold and perishable items. The compartments have ice, so you can keep everything in the fridge until full. I recommend making at least one meal a day from your fridge to save money. Peanut butter and jelly work great!
The park has a few “restaurants” or more snack bar/cafeteria types where you can grab a burger or chicken sandwich. But I will say that most of the park is not known for cooking.

Montana Family Vacations
There are many general stores in Yellowstone where you can grab something and these are open all day. You can click here to learn about general stores in Yellowstone.
Unless you choose to go to some of their fancy restaurants like the Lake Hotel. But note that many of these require reservations.
There are also a few bars located in the park and we definitely recommend to have a cocktail and sit on the terrace and watch the sunset or look for a buffalo trail. We absolutely love Wylin’s Canteen at Lake Lodge. Be aware that the guards are waiting for people drinking and driving – be smart and have a designated driver.
Hear what Rangers have to say about keeping away from animals! They are amazing to look at but you have to give them space. Gosh, they look very patient – but they are not! You can charge instant ads, and they’re fast.
This Is The Best National Park In The U.s
Be alert when climbing or walking on trails. You never know what’s around the next corner so speak up and be prepared. Whenever we hiked or biked, we carried bear spray.
The rangers will give you a list of how far you should stay based on the animals. My advice is to stay at least 100 meters away from all wild animals. Yes – if they are in your car then they will approach you – just be sure not to anger them or they can cause a lot of damage to your car!
Respect wild animals. Fear of wild animals is not a reason not to go to Yellowstone. If you follow the instructions and be proactive and smart about what you do. You and your family will be fine.
There is a Verizon tower in the park. So Verizon *however* you can get a cell signal if it’s inconsistent in the park and the data speed is pretty slow during the day. Works great at 2am :)!
Yellowstone Luxury Tours
Lodges offer you the option to purchase their internet access there. You must be in the lodge to use it and you can usually buy 1 hour, 24 hours or 72 hours of internet use. So if you have to work while you live there, it might be possible – but it’s not something I 100% count on working all the time.
The signal is better than the main lodge, Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful. I recommend not counting on service. The lodge has pay phones (yes you read that right!) so if you have to call you can pay for the time and make one. Ironically, I don’t know if you’ll accept change or not, so think about a calling card when planning.
