The Pixel 7’s wide f/1.9 aperture and 2x faster shutter speed make it ideal for low-light photography, and in good light the Pixel 7 took pictures with excellent dynamic range and color saturation, while the white balance was nice and accurate. Advanced features like Magic Eraser let you remove unwanted objects and people from your image with one tap, and Face Unbur also does a great job of reducing motion blur.

The regular Pixel 7, meanwhile, offers much of the same camera system as the Pro at a much lower price. For £250 less than its bigger brother, you also get a great 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera, but miss out on the 5x telephoto zoom lens.

If that’s not something that bothers you, the good news is that absolutely everything else is identical, with a more compact frame in terms of camera features and shooting modes.
Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro is one of the most expensive phones on the list, but it does a great job of capturing reliable photos and sharp, stable 4K video at 60fps.
The 14 Pro has three cameras on the back. The main camera once again provides sensor shift stabilization on the smartphone – keeping your videos as stable as possible – and is now in its second generation, with Apple improving low- and medium-light image processing. The resolution of the main camera has increased massively to a massive 48 MP with a 65% larger sensor, while the 12 MP ultra-wide sensor has been doubled. While the image quality is excellent—the 14 Pro is based on Apple’s excellent portrait mode—the best thing about the iPhone 14 Pro is its video capabilities. Again, capturing film in 4K resolution at a maximum frame rate of 60fps with Dolby Vision support, no other smartphone video effort comes close to this level of quality. Cinematic mode – which allows you to shoot in shallow depth of field with automatic focus transition – has received a resolution boost to 4K, and the all-new Action mode applies action camera-like stabilization to your video.

Offering up to 100x hybrid zoom range, the Galaxy S22 Ultra excels at telescopic photography, and the 108MP main camera is no slouch either. In our tests, we found that the Galaxy S22 Ultra was capable of capturing detailed images in well-lit environments, with excellent dynamic range and rich, bold colors that seem to pop right off the screen. The phone’s night mode also did an exceptional job of increasing the brightness of the image without adding distracting visual noise or blotting out the street lights.

Useful shooting features are also a big bonus, such as the ability to grab an image directly from any frame of 8K video recording, as well as the ability to capture in both JPEG and DNG formats simultaneously in the Galaxy Store’s Expert RAW app. So, if you need a flagship smartphone that can do it all in the camera department, but also something that hits it out of the park with telephotos, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the perfect candidate.
Apple may prefer that customers spend more on the iPhone 13, but the iPhone SE 3 (2022)’s lower asking price is worth noting in the camera department. Powered by the same high-end chipset as Apple’s flagships – the A15 Bionic – the iPhone SE may only have a single 12-megapixel rear camera, but the image quality is frankly exceptional for the price.
It will also finally benefit from Apple’s Deep Fusion technology, which improves low-light images, and Smart HDR 4, which allows the camera to detect and adjust the exposure of each face in group shots. The photos we were able to capture with the iPhone SE were generally very good.
Once again, Apple’s portrait mode brings out the best of the 12MP sensor, with sharp details and a rich color palette. In dim light, the iPhone SE 3 holds up surprisingly well
