A supervisor, or manager, (also known as foreman, boss, supervisor, facilitator, monitor, area coordinator, line manager, or sometimes gaffer) is the job title of a lower-level management position based primarily on authority over workers or a workplace.
A supervisor can also be one of the most senior members of staff at the workplace, for example a professor supervising a doctoral thesis. On the other hand, supervision can be carried out by persons without this formal title, for example by parts. The term supervisor itself can be used to refer to all employees who have this task as part of their job description.
