Are you ready to book your 2017 Walt Disney World vacation? Today is the day! There are a few changes with this release, mostly with Disney’s dining plans for 2017. Let’s take a look at what’s changed.

First, let’s take a look at Disney’s dining plans for 2017. For those who wish to enjoy either the Quick Service Dining Plan or the Regular Dining Plan, Quick Service Meals will no longer include dessert for both packages. However, Disney has introduced a change where guests of both dining packages can now enjoy two snacks each day instead of one. This means you are no longer forced to enjoy a traditional chocolate cake just because it comes with your counter meal, and now you can grab a Mickey Premium Bar and Popcorn whenever you want! (That is unless you want cake…which will then count as one of your snack credits.)

For those on the Magic Your Way Package Plus Deluxe Dining, Quick Service meals will also no longer include dessert at lunch or dinner.

Additionally, another change for 2017 is the discontinuation of the Magic Your Way Premium and Platinum packages.

Another minor change is that guests who book or change their package 14-8 days prior to arrival will receive final documents during check-in at their resort. Documents will not be expedited to guests’ homes.

Of course, there are price changes. Quick-Service Plans and Standard Disney Dining Plans increase approximately 4-6%, while the Deluxe Dining Plan decreases approximately 11%. (Wait. Reduce? That can’t be right.)

We note that Disney has not yet released official prices for Disney dining for 2017, so we have reverse-engineered the prices by choosing a travel date earlier in the standard season and doing our own calculations to remove the known costs of other items . package (see screenshot above – this includes hotel, tickets and dining so you can pick your jaw up off the floor). While these increases seem pretty consistent with past years, the reduction in the Deluxe meal plan seems odd. However, this

Which the math shows. We’re not entirely sure the Deluxe prices are accurate (although there may be a reason for that, as you’ll read below), so if you want the Deluxe package for 2017, consider booking now to lock in that price. (The downside is because the 2017 discounts aren’t available yet, when you use a future discount, you have to use whatever price it is at the time…)

The Essentials For Planning A Disney World Vacation

Based on our theoretical travel dates for 2017, the cost per adult per night for the plans is as follows: $46.34 for the Express Service plan; $67.33 for the standard Disney Dining Plan; and $103.57 for the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan. Dining plans have been subject to peak season surcharges for several years, so you can expect to pay more if you travel during a busier time of year.

In addition to the predictable price increases, there is another notable change. This means that counter meals will no longer include dessert. Instead, guests on the Standard and Express Disney Dining Plans now receive 2 snacks each day instead of 1. We think this is a reasonable win for guests using Standard DDP, as the extra snack credit is more versatile than dessert. . This is especially true for those traveling during Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival, as the most expensive booth items cost ~$3 more than the most expensive snacks, so there’s a good opportunity to squeeze more value out of this plan. However, for those on the DDP express service who would use checkout credit for lunch and dinner, you’re effectively trading 2 desserts for 1 snack credit – not such a great deal.

This could also potentially explain the price drop on the Deluxe plan. Its definition of a counter meal also changes to cut dessert, but there is no corresponding increase in snack credit. If this plan’s price cut is true, we suspect Disney may have seen a decline in use of the Deluxe Dining Plan after the disproportionate price jumps of the past few years.

You may notice that there are some notable omissions from participating restaurants in these PDFs. Don’t give up. These preliminary lists

Disney Dining Plan Changes & Prices

Leave out restaurants that end up participating. Many of the restaurants at Walt Disney World are owned and operated by third parties (such as Yak & Yeti), which take a little more time to negotiate and finalize their status with Disney. Not accepting the dining plan would be very detrimental to many of these restaurants, so you can expect to see them added in time.

We used to be fans of Disney’s dining plan, but for several years now we’ve been recommending it—at least to most regular guests who don’t bring wolf packs, eat steaks at every meal, and use a spreadsheet to make sure they’re getting their money’s worth—due to price increases that negate the potential savings it once offered. We focus on why the Disney Dining Plan is a bad value in our Disney Dining Plan Pros & Cons post, so I won’t repeat it here.

Suffice it to say that for most guests, Disney’s dining plan offers only apparent convenience and help with the budget. In reality, most guests traveling on a budget will be better off purchasing discounted Disney prepaid gift cards or some other method of budgeting in advance, and simply paying out of pocket is much more convenient than following complicated dining plan rules. . While the Dining Plan can provide small savings in some circumstances, about the only time it can be defined as a “good” deal is during the Free Disney Dining Plan promotion, which is usually available for fall travel dates. (Expect Fall 2017 free meal dates to be available in late April 2017.)

As for the changes themselves, we think they’re a win for Disney’s 2017 Dining Plan — especially for those who take advantage of free dining with standard DDP. Price hikes are obviously bad, but who hasn’t seen it coming? These increases are at least partially offset by replacing dessert at the counter with additional snack credit. It’s not enough to move the needle back in favor of using the Disney Dining Plan—or to recommend it—but for those who are hell-bent on using it, it’s an improvement.
