Over the past couple of years, I’ve wanted to visit more places with the kids as they get older and leave home. But it wasn’t until last year that I had the confidence to jump on a bus or train and take them myself. Crazy, huh? Anyway, in January 2018 we sat down together and made a list of 12 places we want to visit throughout the year. And even though we only ticked a few of them off the list, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the places we visited.

This year, we decided to make a list of our top 10 travel goals for 2019. And while I honestly don’t think we’ll be able to cross them all off the list before the end of the year, I’ve decided we’ll give it our best shot! So, without further ado, let me tell you about all the beautiful places we love to visit this year!

Okay, so the top spot on our list is the same as last year! And that place is Calypso Cove Waterpark in Barnsley. The waterpark can be found in the Metrodome Leisure Complex and it has 3 different pools for the whole family to enjoy. I’ve been promising the kids we’d visit Calypso Cove for ages, but we’ve never been. However, I know we will be visiting this year as I have arranged a coach trip from our hometown during February half term. Eek!

In addition to having 3 different pool areas, Calypso Cove is home to 3 amazing looking flumes, a slide perfect for the little ones to use as they head into the shallow end of the pool, and an amazing four-lane open slide. Great for racing with your friends! There’s even a diving board that makes you feel like you’re about to walk the plank. How cool!?

After your swim, you can enjoy a delicious meal at The Hideout Poolside Restaurant. It looks like they do really tasty snacks and meals and I will definitely be taking the kids to eat there when we finally go for our swim. As I’ve said before, the kids have been wanting to check it out for years, I’m really glad we’ve finally crossed it off the list of places we want to visit this half term. I can’t wait to see their little faces when we arrive! Priceless.

Next on my list of places I would love to travel to this year is the Greek island of Crete. My children have never traveled abroad before. And, if I’m honest, I don’t really remember what it was like to move out of the country. It’s been so long! When we were looking to book an overseas holiday last year, we came across the TUI Sensatori Resort Atlantica Caldera Palace in Crete and it looked like a fantastic place for people who had never been abroad before and wanted to do everything. As simple as possible.

The resort can be found in the traditional village of Analipsi, home to a few cafes, bars and beach shops. And since it’s all-inclusive, it means we don’t have to go out every evening to find something reasonably priced to eat. It has 6 pools, a spa with 23 treatment rooms, 7 restaurants and various areas to entertain children. It also has free Wi-Fi so I can even take my laptop with me and do a bit of blogging if I want to … yeah, who am I kidding!? If we’re lucky enough to be here, I’d definitely rather relax than work!

I’ve been studying Crete a lot over the last few months and it’s the largest of the Greek islands, with lots of lovely things for families to do there. I think Oscar would love to take a pirate ship cruise. And Stacey will be in her element exploring nearby Chrissy Island. I really hope we can visit the island later this year as I know the kids will be in their element.

It’s Oscar’s 6th birthday this May (I know, I know! Where did the time go!?) and the present he asked for was a trip to LEGOLAND! Now, since it’s such an expensive place to go, I really only want to visit that day. But since we live in the middle of nowhere, we definitely have to spend the weekend or we can only spend a few hours in the park.

Legoland is somewhere Stacey and I have wanted to visit for a long time. So I know we will all enjoy spending time there. It looks like there are lots of different LEGO ‘worlds’ to explore once you’re inside. And I think Oscar would love Ninjago World and Pirate Shores, and Stacey would definitely enjoy Heartlake City. She had many LEGO Friends playsets as a child. And me? Well, as long as there’s somewhere I can sit and build for half an hour or I’ll be a happy bunny. I mean, I like to think of myself as a master builder!

If we could travel for Oscar’s birthday, I’d really like to stay in one of the themed rooms at the LEGOLAND hotel. If you haven’t already noticed, he’s crazy about pirates, so I think one of their pirate-themed rooms would be right up his street. They are all decorated with pirate bedding, curtains, wallpaper and more! It will be a real birthday treat. Guys, skip all that for us with this one.

Next on my bucket list of places to travel in 2019 is the Algarve, Portugal. And it’s a place I’ve always wanted to visit. In fact, I’ve mentioned this so many times on my blog in the past that I’m sure you guys are tired of hearing about it! LOL.

My dream is to stay with the family in a beautiful villa in The Algarve, even if it’s so big, I might need a private jet to take us there. LOL. How much does it cost to charter a private jet? Know someone? Anyway, I would like to rent a villa with a private pool so that the kids can go swimming whenever they want. And I was able to take really cute photographs of other people’s kids enjoying themselves without having to worry about being told I could get into them.

As well as spending a lot of time relaxing and splashing in the pool, I like to check out the local area and maybe go on a boat trip or something. The Algarve seems to have a lot to offer and I would really love to explore it. As she always tells her friends how much they love their vacations abroad, I know Stacey will enjoy it too. I would love to take my two overseas sometime when they grow up.

Another place I would love to visit outside of the UK is Iceland. And I won’t lie – it’s mainly because I want to see the Northern Lights! I mean, who wouldn’t? The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon that don’t always appear when you expect them. So I definitely won’t go to Iceland and see them. That’s why it’s good to do many other things there.

The first thing on my list was to go waterfall hunting, I was absolutely mesmerized by them! I think there is something breathtaking about watching water fall from a great height into a stream or river below. And Iceland is said to be full of waterfalls that are amazing to see. And I want to snorkel through Silfra Fisher – the only place in the world where you can swim through two tectonic plates – the North American and Eurasian continental plates. Imagine how cool it would be to one day tell your grandkids about the time you swam between two continents!? Awesome!

Visiting Iceland would be an absolute dream come true for me. I know I will enjoy every second of my time there. I think it’s the ultimate travel bucket list destination for now, don’t you? It is definitely a place that grows in popularity every year.

As we are lucky enough to live on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border, I thought it would be a good idea to try and take the kids to explore the local area more this year. And I like it
