We have had one of these since 2002 (a very good friend bought it and all the extra cars, when he passed away a few months after the purchase we were given the set as per his will) we set up every year for our Christmas Tree as he wants. Other than some breakage of the track connections (hold some together using bread ties) no problems. I bought 2 more sets this year for friends, one who has an autistic son who loves trains, another for my brother-in-law for his grandchildren.
Not all cars will be lights because the connection is weak and it is difficult to get on the car and keep it on the track. Santa now makes a strange noise after about an hour of intermittent running. Definitely not hohoho.
This train has provided hours of fun with both my children and grandchildren. Fun for all ages and looks great under any tree.

Rated 1 out of 5 by mandarose33 from Great but the tracks don’t work. We bought this last weekend, after looking around for other sets. I love that it’s so big, especially. At this price point. However, it will not stay on track, no matter what configuration we use. They are easy to set up, but as the train travels over them, the tracks tend to separate slightly, causing the train or any car to derail. I spent three hours trying different configurations of tracks and cars, and still couldn’t get a single one to complete a complete turn around the track without the train derailing. It’s not super rough and tumble, so my toddler uses the remote to steer it down the hallway. Also to note, it takes 4 C, 3 AAA and 1 9v (for the remote which you need for the music part) batteries to run. We appreciated that only two cars needed batteries, vs. Every car that uses 4 batteries. Keep it all aside, it will be easier to keep it than to pack it all up for a refund. I am still looking for a better quality version of this.

Like many others here I was frustrated that this train kept falling off the tracks as the weight of the batteries tilted the whole thing backwards. This prevents the front wheels from staying on the track so the whole thing derails. I think this is due to an assembly issue. The rear wheels can be installed in 2 different ways. I realized that when the locomotive is sitting flat on the drive wheels, the rear wheels are actually higher than the drive wheels – that’s why it was leaning back. I unscrewed the small screw on the actual wheel assembly, flipped the rear wheel assembly over and then screwed it back into place. QUESTION SOLVED!! I gave 4 stars because of this final assembly issue that caused me and many others a lot of grief. Otherwise it looks like a fun little addition chugging around our tree.

I bought another one this year to replace it but this one doesn’t work at all (seems to have a faulty on/off switch). I give up – it seems the manufacturer can’t produce a consistent product and I’ve wasted a lot of time on store pickups and returns.
Paid 60$ before tax from plumber Kyle Rated 1 out of 5 Waste of money, not worth it!!! Maybe 30$ on some sort of sale… you and your community would be better off donating 60$ to a local charity just for the holiday season!!!!! Or put $60 toward a real model train set and buy some Christmas themed trains and cars.
I have seen models that can be mounted around trees. Can it be placed around a Christmas tree in any case? No longer supported
