South Austin Senior Activity Center – Last week our Year 12 students presented their capstone project at St Edward’s University in front of a professional panel, their teachers and peers. Senior Capstone partners with various organizations in the Austin area to help address needs through three STEM tracks: engineering, biomedical and media technology.

LARC – Born out of a passion for the arts and equality for all people, LARC partnered with North Pole, Texas to help visually impaired artists with over standard cane fitting and voice.

Art-Felt seeks to bridge two issues: the imminent extinction of the monarch butterfly in our society and depression in the aging community. Art-Felt has partnered with the South Austin Senior Activity Center to create a perfect ecosystem of monarch butterflies as well as a new garden where the senior community can relax, heal and enjoy. The South Austin Senior Activity Center (SASAC) functions as a special resource for people 50 and older.

The 12,311-square-foot facility sits on 4.61 acres of large oak and cedar trees. An attractive and colorful community flower garden is located off the back porch and is a great place for conversation and outdoor games. Facilities include pottery, billiards, fitness, conferences, arts and crafts, cooking and other multi-purpose programs.

SASAC was established on land donated to the City of Austin in 1992, a $2.1 million project approved by voters in a bond election. The building was completed in 1995 and is located in the vibrant activity area where it resides.
