Resort Evening Attire Dress Code – Are you wondering what “resort night” and “resort casual” mean? Don’t worry! This post explains the Sandals and Beaches Resorts dress code for men and women.
Sandals and Beaches Resorts are owned by the same company, the difference between the resorts is that Sandals is adults-only and Beaches is family-friendly. Their dress codes are the same. What works at a Sandals Resort will also work at a Beaches Resort.

My husband and I are usually avid Sandals fans, but on our recent trip to Turks and Caicos, we tried Beaches Turks & Caicos. So I had a chance to experience the dress code at both Beaches and Sandals Resorts firsthand.

Sandals/Beaches, in fact, does not clearly define what is considered “resort night” for women. (It’s pretty much all geared towards men if you look on their website.) However, there is definitely still a dress code for women.
Below, I’ll show you some examples of my personal wear recommendations for resort nightwear for women at Beaches and Sandals.
Thankfully, my regular attire of a dress and comfy but cute sandals or flats are the perfect outfit for a “resort night” dress code.
The dress I’m wearing pictured above was super comfortable and paired with some fun jewelry, it also looked perfectly elegant for a resort night. I bought it over 5 years ago for a luau, but thought it would work great for dinner in Jamaica too!

If you want fun and comfy resort dresses for your vacation – I’m a huge fan of Lilly Pulitzer clothing. It’s great quality, colorful and the perfect look for a Caribbean vacation. (Above is my favorite Lilly dress for the holidays!)
You can also never go wrong with a silk beach holiday dress. They are so comfortable and stylish! I used this a few times for evening dinners at the resort while staying at Beaches Turks and Caicos, and it was perfect. I bought the Diane Von Furstenberg envelope dress above secondhand from The RealReal for under $30 with tags still attached!
Sandals/Beaches suggests ladies wear nice sandals or heels. However, ladies, you are on a beach resort vacation – personally, I would leave the heels at home! Cute sandals or sandals are more comfortable and much more practical for a beach holiday (where, you know, you’ll be walking in the sand and stuff!)… and sandals like the ones I’m wearing over (and under) or wedges are completely fine!
As a woman, we have many more options than men. A nice comfortable sundress and cute sandals are more than adequate for a “resort night”. You would also look good wearing a cute onesie (like the ones below) or a jumpsuit (also below). Another option is to wear resort pants and a dressy top (this is my least favorite option, however, it’s not as comfortable for me).
What To Wear To A Rehearsal Dinner, From Casual To Cocktail
Men don’t get to have as much fun in what they wear, unfortunately. They can still be comfortable, though!
For shirts, boys should wear dress shirts with long or short sleeves (with or without a collar). My husband swears by his Eddie Bauer buttons because they look nice and are very breathable (some of them are wrinkle-resistant too). He also wore some polos (like the ones pictured below).
For pants, guys should wear dress pants or jeans. However, jeans are the last thing you want to wear on a hot, humid night. (It never got below 80 degrees while we were here!) You can still look perfectly fine in breathable hiking pants, in my opinion. My husband uses these breathable hiking pants for just about everything! (Click here to buy them.)
They look cute, but they’re also comfortable to wear in the heat. (He wears them to work now and wore them pretty much the entire time we were in Egypt and Jordan too – proof of that if you click here.) He also packed up these Eddie Bauer pants and wore them too.

As for shoes, men must wear closed shoes. So, no sandals for you – sorry! They also shouldn’t wear sneakers. Moccasins or boat shoes are great for nights like this. My husband is obsessed with these Sperry boat shoes right now because he can now wear them to work in his new role. They also worked perfectly for the “resort night” style, as well as being very comfortable to wear. (Click here to buy them.)
Just to be clear – this is not mandatory for ALL Sandals restaurants, only some of them have the resort’s evening dress code. Others will have “resort casual” as their dress code.
If you want to know how many restaurants require “night at the resort” as their dress code – just click here to go to the Sandals website or click here to go to the Beaches Resort website. Then click on your resort and then on “dinner”. You will be able to click on all the restaurants in your resort and the dress code will be on the right hand side.
I know I got into a big, long explanation of the Sandals and Beaches dress code for nightwear… but that’s because it’s a little more complicated (at least for the men). Now “resort casual” is MUCH easier.
Dress Codes, Explained: What To Wear To Everything, From Casual To Dressy To White Tie
Basically, what resort casual means is that you should have your bathing suit covered (and not be dripping wet) and wear some type of footwear. Resort casual for a restaurant means “no shirt, no shoes, no service”. So just be covered and have some kind of shoe, and that’s all you have to worry about!
Now, the swimsuit cover-up I’m wearing above would work best for dinner at lunch when you’ve just come in from the beach or the pool.
Again, I like dresses, so I’ll also wear a dress and a pair of sandals to a casual resort restaurant in the evening. But really, you can wear whatever you want – as long as you’re wearing SOMETHING over your bathing suit.

For resort casual, men only need to worry about putting on a shirt and a pair of shoes. (And also make sure your swimming trunks aren’t dripping when you walk into a restaurant.) That’s it!
At night, he usually wears shorts and a polo shirt or T-shirt to dinner. However, any shirt, shorts, and shoes are fine for dinner at a resort casual restaurant!
