Rob Warner is the recipient of the Marge Scanlin Outstanding Student Research Award from the American Camp Association (ACA) and will present his research at the American Camp Association conference in February 2022. The Marge Scanlin Outstanding Research Award is given based on quality research and projects contributed to the camp movement.

Rob is a Ph.D. student in PRT, where he studies the role of out-of-school time (or OST) in adolescent and emerging adult development. She is interested in how the impact of OST contexts on development varies based on experiences, settings, and characteristics of individuals. The award was given for her paper “Comparing the Developmental Attributes of Camp with Other Summer Settings”, the result of a collaborative effort in the Sipthorpe Lab at PRT.

Each year, we offer traditional departmental research and teaching assistantships to incoming PhD students, as well as a changing assortment of specialized assistantships associated with specific focus areas and research projects.

If you are a current student at the University of Utah, or may become a current student, we can help you select courses that will help you in your graduate program. This may include either content awareness classes (see above) or lower division graduate classes with no prerequisites. If you are not a current student at the University of Utah, you may enroll and take classes as a student seeking a second bachelor’s degree.

Although there are no clear requirements, previous university instructors are often able to answer specific questions about your ability to succeed in a graduate program. If academic references are unavailable, letters from current or previous supervisors are usually superior to your colleagues or peers.
