Environmental Education Group Games & Activities

It’s so hard to pick a favorite! But I have a few suggestions that are always popular with kids.

Splash the Alphabet is a favorite and so much fun! Add a drop of food coloring to the bottled water.

Choose a letter and spray it! We also have such great memories from the Outdoor Chalk Game. It’s like a board game that you can walk around. bye Mind blowing right?

Another easy and cool (I couldn’t resist) outdoor activity is Paint the Rocks. Some days we have to go rock hunting. Next step, paint them. Or if you want some sensory play, try Bear Soup Sensory Play. How will I ever repay these bears for the joy they have given my children?! They are a definite favorite and I still catch my eight year old playing with them. Take the bears outside for an outdoor water tank. Bear soup? Don’t worry if I do!

Outdoor Party Games For Kids • Run Wild My Child

You know what else I tried? Bringing indoor toys outside and it was a HUGE hit. I did it at Outdoor Tracks Water Play. The boys tested the racing cars and tried to lower them into a bucket of water. (Always supervise small children near water).

Of course, I couldn’t help but mention the Musical Scavenger Hunt. A musical scavenger hunt is a great way to get outside and get moving. Play your favorite song. When it stops – run and grab something of the color you stop on. It’s great fun for all ages.

If you want to add some outdoor math, try Shapes and Shaving Cream. We highlighted our 3D shapes and created new sculptures. This is a great late morning activity outside before the sun gets too hot. When it warms up, hose everyone (and everything) down.

Risky Play For Children: Why We Should Let Kids Go Outside And Then Get Out Of The Way

If your little one is past shaving cream (though who is?!) and wants some extra sensory fun, try Nature Murals. It is a two-step outdoor activity. First collect the items outside. Then glue them to a huge piece of wood or cardboard. A fun way to strengthen little hands, practice gluing and incorporate creativity.

One of my all-time favorites for fall is Pumpkin Balance. Can you balance a mini pumpkin on your head? It’s more complicated than it looks, but it gave us all a good laugh outside when it took a while to get dinner ready.
