Outdoor Activity Days

Outdoor Activity Days – We’ve had too many in-house collaborations over the past year. While I’m usually not the most outdoorsy person, I’ve gotten to know a little more fresh air and sunshine. To encourage my family to get outside during the warmer months of the year, I created a 28-day outdoor game challenge calendar. These free printables will get your family outside and playing this summer!

I’m excited to share this printable with you for free! To access the printables, sign up for Mad in Crafts Freebies using the form above or by signing up here. Don’t worry, membership won’t cost you, but it will give you free access to everything I share on Mad in Crafts.

I love hearing from you. That’s right, I love hearing from my readers. It honestly made me do a few things. First, I did a happy dance. Then, I went to tell my husband that someone was interested in what I created and wrote with the biggest smile on my face. Then he said…

The other day I ran into this problem with my almost five year old. I would suggest an activity and then she would say she didn’t want to do that activity. All she kept was that she was bored. Then we repeat this situation basically 100 times. It was exhausting. In the end, …

Stephanie Harper is a freelance writer living in Asheville, NC. Originally from Oakland, CA, she and her husband, James, decided to move their blended family across the country in hopes of expanding their landscape for outdoor adventure and love of nature. You can follow the Harper family on her blog raisingkidswild.com. It seems ironic that I wrote an article about going outside in bad weather in the middle of June. We are on the brink of summer but the weather is far from summer. In fact, it has been raining every day for over a week now that I am here. Not only is it wet but it is also cold and sometimes I have to turn on the heat! This is something I never do in June, but I guess we can never predict great British weather!

As a family, we spend as much time as possible outside the house. I am a great believer in the benefits of outdoor play and learning and try to encourage this as much as possible both in my own family and with others as well. Everyone can benefit from the great outdoors, but in this climate it’s not always easy to see those benefits when you’re in a warm, cozy house watching the rain trickle down the windows.

Unfortunately, this bad weather event coincides with the annual 30 Days Wild challenge which encourages families to spend time outdoors each day for 30 days in a row. Suddenly this exciting challenge doesn’t seem interesting anymore. It can be very hard to force ourselves to go outside when it’s dark, gray and wet every day. This is why I thought it would be good to talk about fun activities that can be done in bad weather. Just remember, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes. So, bring the right equipment and it won’t be as bad as you think! Do you see the sun? I do the same. Sometimes between the first day of spring and the last day of school, my heart longs for outdoor activities for children. Of course, I’m a child of the ’80s. There is a lot of value in opening the garage door and asking the children to return by sundown.

But the reality is that the days with toddlers and preschoolers are not easy. I remember having a young baby and wondering if we would make it to bed.
