Outdoor Activity Centres Northern Ireland – About Ganaway is on a 13 acre site just outside the village of Ballywhiskin and is an excellent position to facilitate a wide range of outdoor activities.

From Belfast: Take the Newtownards Road A20 into Newtownards. From Newtownards follow the signs for Millisle. In Millisle follow the signs for Ballywalter (coast road). Jump around a giant inflatable park, tackle the ninja master course, fight gravity with an indoor skydive and sharpen your skiing skills at one of these two huge indoor activity centers in Titanic Quarter in Newtownbreda, south of Belfast city, where younger children also can come grips with the Alpine-themed ropes course and soft play area. 2. w5
NI’s discovery and science center gets its ecclesiastical name from the old questions ‘who, what, why, when, where?’. It’s a great place to explore, with age-appropriate exhibits designed to lighten little and bigger brains. Climbit (pictured) is a fantastic climbing frame that takes up the main atrium and the spacebase provides the younger ones with a rocket-themed multi-sensory activity zone. Regular events enhance the learning through fun ethos of this large indoor space in Titanic Quarter’s Odyssey complex.
Ireland’s first alpine coaster (pictured) and longest zipline add to the adrenaline rush at this West Belfast adventure park. Archery, laser quest and high and low level rope walks with Fan Descender Freefall test the mettle of wannabe Bear Grylls. While the youngsters will love the Gruffalo Trail, which snakes deep into the forest.
Grab a reservoir, fill it with inflatables and bring the whole family out for a fantastic water day. Little ducks will enjoy the epic Puddle Park while older more experienced swimmers can try everything from wakeboarding to kayaking and open water swimming. Glamping pods and on-site restaurants elevate this water wonderland to a truly unique overnight adventure.
Countryside & Woodlands
All creatures great and small live on this working farm on the outskirts of East Belfast. Children can approach the bottle-feeding lambs, cuddle the chicks and baby animals, then watch the cows being milked and the sheepdogs complete their agility course. A tractor-driven trailer takes visitors uphill to feed the herd of red deer and enjoy stunning views over to Stormont Parliament Buildings. More indoor and outdoor activities keep the kids happy whatever the weather, and the glamping pods extend your green vacation.
Just under an hour’s drive from Belfast sits this sprawling outdoor adventure center where kids can enjoy zorbing, llama treks, tree top rope walks. Paintball and much more. And, yes, the ubiquitous glamping pods, as well as café and burger vans, invite families to stay put and make the most of their high-octane visit. Splash NI, a giant inflatable water-based obstacle course is also open nearby for full outdoor fun and japes.
Pickie’s puffer train and pedalo swans have delighted local children for generations, and today they are joined by disco ducks, go-karts, crazy golf and a colorful splash park. Enjoy lunch at the cafe as you take in the view of Bangor’s magnificent yacht-filled marina. Find it just 30 minutes east of Belfast in this Co Down coastal town.
Head west to Omagh, Co Tyrone and immerse yourself in the history of the wave of emigration from these shores to the United States, where Irishmen and women began new lives in the New World. This fantastic open air museum has rebuilt 18th and 19th century homesteads and working areas from both sides of the Atlantic and connected them with a magnificent replica ship. Events and activities continue to animate the park which, in our opinion, is one of NI’s most inspiring and educational attractions.
Fun Family Day Out Ideas In Northern Ireland In Every County
This hybrid attraction combines NI’s transport history with over 100 years of local tradition. The transport section includes trams, steam trains and the history of the Belfast-built DeLorean car from
Fame. While the Folk Museum takes that theme and transports you back through the centuries to visit a reconstructed townland complete with school, churches, bank, shops, farm, post office, cottages and many other authentic Irish buildings. Children will love exploring both sites and discovering the past from the enthusiastic costumed living history guides.
This aquarium and seal sanctuary really makes the most of its Strangford Lough setting, with a guided trail that tells the story of the shore, from the arrival of the Strangford Vikings through Smugglers’ Cover, Shipwrecked, and the ongoing battle with ocean pollution. Also look for tropical fish, jellyfish, an octopus, otter and a Nile crocodile. If you live, rescued seals can be watched before they are rehabilitated and released back into the sea. And then the kids will love the short but sublime ferry crossing that connects the Portaferry with the equally picturesque Strangford village.
Gaze in awe at this stunning collection of vintage trains and railwayana and then head to Downpatrick’s historically restored line at nearby Inch Abbey. High days and holidays bring special trips to the routes. The Whitehead Railway Museum of Co.
Tollymore National Outdoor Centre, Tollymore Mountain Centre
A dizzying mix of family-friendly outdoor activities, as well as a maze shaped like Northern Ireland (yes, you read that right) are among the attractions about this elaborate parkland. Spend a day enjoying its many nooks and crannies and fantastic views of the Irish Sea. Find it 25 miles north of Belfast and 55 miles south of the Giant’s Causeway along the famous Causeway Coastal Route.
Other attractions for children to enjoy include Belfast Zoo, Armagh Planetarium, Castle Espie, Pirates Advenutre Golf and Dundonald Ice Bowl, Drumawhey Miniature Railway and, for older children, Titanic Belfast.
