Outdoor Activity Badminton

Outdoor Activity Badminton – Badminton is a racket sport played with rackets to hit a badminton over a net. Although it can be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are “singles” (with one player per side) and “doubles” (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a garden or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by hitting the badminton racket and landing it inside the other team’s half of the court.

Each side may only hit the badminton once before it goes over the net. Play ds as soon as the badminton has hit the floor or ground, or if a foul has been called by the referee, service judge or (in their absence) the opposing side.

The badminton is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile that flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. The springs in particular create much greater resistance, causing the badminton to slow down faster. Shuttlecocks also have a high top speed compared to the balls in other racquet sports. The flight of the badminton gives the sport its distinctive nature.

The game evolved in British India from the earlier games of battledore and shuttlecock. European gaming was dominated by Dmark, but the game became very popular in Asia, with real competitions dominated by China. In 1992, badminton debuted as a Summer Olympic sport with four events: women’s singles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and women’s doubles;

Mixed doubles was added four years later. At high levels of play, the sport requires excellent fitness: players require aerobic stamina, agility, strength, speed and precision. It is also a technical sport that requires good motor coordination and the development of sophisticated racket movements.

But the modern game of badminton developed in the mid-19th century under the expatriate officers of British India as a variant of the earlier game of rackets and badminton. (“Battledore” was an older term for “racket”.)

But why or wh remains unclear. As early as 1860, a London toy merchant named Isaac Spratt published a booklet entitled Badminton Battledore – A New Game, but no copy is known to have survived.

An 1863 article in The Cornhill Magazine describes badminton as “racquets and badminton played with silks, over a rope suspended about five feet from the ground”.

Ball badminton, a form of the game played with a woolen ball instead of a shuttlecock, was played in Thanjavur as early as the 1850s

And was initially played alternately with badminton by the British, and the wool ball was preferred in windy or wet weather.

By 1875 officers returning home started a badminton club in Folkestone. Initially, the sport was played with teams ranging from 1 to 4 players, but it was quickly determined that games between two or four competitors worked best.

Although the depth of the net was of no consequence, it was preferred that it reach the ground.

The sport was played under the Pune Rules until 1887, when J. H. E. Hart of the Bath Badminton Club drew up revised regulations.

The Gland Badminton Association (BAE) published these rules in 1893 and officially launched the sport at a house called “Dunbar”

The BAE started the first badminton competition, the All gland Op Badminton Championships for men’s doubles, ladies’ doubles and mixed doubles, in 1899.

Gland, Scotland, Wales, Canada, Denmark, France, Ireland, the Netherlands and New Zealand were the founding members of the International Badminton Federation in 1934, now known as the Badminton World Federation. India joined in 1936 as an affiliate. The BWF now governs international badminton. Although it started in gland, competitive m’s badminton is traditionally dominated in Europe by Dmark. Globally, Asian nations have become dominant in international competition. China, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, South Korea, Taiwan (played as ‘Chinese Taipei’) and Japan are the nations that have consistently produced world-class players over the past few decades, with China being the biggest force in women’s and women’s competition. right. Great Britain, where the rules of the modern game are codified, is not among the top powers in the sport, but has achieved considerable Olympic and World success in doubles, especially mixed doubles.

The following information is a simplified summary of badminton rules based on the BWF Statutes publication, Laws of Badminton.

The court is rectangular and divided into halves by a net. Courts are usually marked for both singles and doubles, although badminton rules allow a court to be marked for singles only.

The double track is wider than the single track, but both are the same length. The exception, which often causes confusion for newer players, is that the doubles court has a shorter serve-length dimension.

The full width of the court is 6.1 meters (20 ft), and in singles this width is reduced to 5.18 meters (17.0 ft). The full length of the track is 13.4 meters (44 feet). The service courts are marked by a ctre line dividing the width of the court, by a short service line at a distance of 1.98 meters (6 ft 6 in) from the net, and by the outside and back boundaries. In doubles, the service court is also marked by a long service line, which is 0.76 meters (2 ft 6 in) from the back boundary.

The net is 1.55 meters (5 ft 1 in) high at the edges and 1.524 meters (5.00 ft) high in the center. The net posts are placed over the doubles sideline, ev when singles are played.

The minimum height for the ceiling above the court is not mentioned in the Laws of Badminton. However, a badminton court will not be suitable if the ceiling is likely to be hit on a high serve.

The legal boundaries of a badminton court during various stages of a singles and doubles rally

When the server serves, the shuttle must travel over the short service line on the opponents court or it will count as a fault. The server and receiver must remain within their service courts, without touching the boundary lines, until the server hits the shuttlecock. The other two players may stand wherever they want, as long as they do not block the vision of the server or receiver.

At the start of the rally, the server and receiver stand in diagonally opposite service courts (see court dimensions). The server hits the badminton so that it will land in the receiver’s service court. It is similar to tnis except that in a badminton serve the entire shuttle must be less than 1.15 meters from the surface of the court at the moment it is struck by the server’s racket, the badminton must not bounce and in badminton, the players stand within their service courts, unlike tnis.

When the serving side loses a rally, the server immediately passes to their opposition(s) (this differs from the old system where the serve sometimes passes to the double partner for what is known as a “second serve”).

In singles, the server stands in their right service lane where their score is even, and in their left service lane where their score is odd.

In doubles, if the serving team wins a rally, the same player continues to serve, but he/she changes service lanes so that he/she serves to a different opponent each time. If the opponents win the rally and their new score is ev, the player serves in the correct service lane; if odd, the player serves in the left service lane. The players’ career paths are determined by their positions at the start of the previous rally, not by where they stood at the d of the rally. A consequence of this system is that every time a team regains the serve, the server will be the player who did not serve last time.

Each match is played to 21 points, with players scoring a point wherever they win a rally, regardless of whether they served

(this differs from the old system where players could only win a point on their serve and each game was played to 15 points). A match is the best of three games.

If the score is tied at 20–20, the game continues until one side gains a two-point lead (such as 24–22), except if there is a tie at 29–29, in which the game goes to a golden point go. of 30. Whoever scores this point wins the match.

At the start of a game, the shuttle is thrown and the side the shuttle is pointing to serves first. Alternatively, a coin can be tossed, with the winners choosing whether to serve or receive first, or choose which d of the court to occupy first, and their opponents making the remaining choice.

In subsequent matches, the winners of the previous match serve first. Matches are best of three: a player or pair must win two matches (of 21 points each) to win the match. For the first rally of any doubles game, the serving pair
