You see, New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville and slowly grew from the French Quarter to what it is today.
Get ready to see some truly beautiful old buildings, with lovely little balconies wrapping around them, as you stroll through the old streets to the sounds of jazz music and the smell of gumbo.

Where To Stay In New Orleans In 2023
Located within the French Quarter, Bourbon Street is where you want to head when the sun goes down and the lights come on, as the colored lights invite you into the bars that line the streets for a drink or two.
It’s honestly a total assault on the senses, which initially made me recoil. Out of curiosity (and in the mood to party), we all decided to walk down Bourbon Street. A couple of drinks later, the 4 of us had joined the massive crowds lining the streets and tonight turned out to be one of our most fun nights on our cross-American road trip.
My point is that Bourbon Street doesn’t feel too bright, chill, or even too “jazzy”; there are other places in New Orleans for that. What Bourbon streets are for is fun.
Oh, and when you’re here, be sure to try a Hurricane, a famous drink in the city, and also visit the oldest bar in the United States: Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop.
Best Things To Do In New Orleans
Located across from the St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter, Jackson Square is a beautiful, historic park surrounded by some of the city’s oldest buildings.
Once here, you will also find a colony of local artists. Lots of artists paint, draw, create and display their works all over the square and it’s really great for an afternoon stroll.
Originally called Place d’Armes in the 18th century, the square was named after Andrew Jackson, the hero of the Battle of New Orleans (in case he’s interested in history).
In addition, there are also many small shops and restaurants around the square. Oh, and it’s just steps from the very Mississippi River. Exploring Jackson Square is quite easy and really one of the best things to do in New Orleans on a sunny day.
