Multicultural Activities For Early Childhood – This semester in my graduate studies I have been focusing on diversity in the children’s classroom. That, with the political climate in the United States where I live, raise my children and teach has strengthened my commitment to creating inclusive environments for my children and my students. These multi-cultural classroom supplies and toys are the ones I have or have in my classroom, or on my wish list. No classroom or school can be expected to make large or expensive changes immediately, but these resources can be purchased over time to help any school achieve that goal.
When our children understand and appreciate the differences around them, they will more easily respect those differences and not use them to discriminate. My goal as a parent and as a teacher is to teach my children and students to be proud of who they are, where they come from, their culture and family and to respect that everyone should be given that opportunity. With that goal in mind, these toys and various toys help to normalize diversity, bring cultural diversity into the same classroom or show students, their families, and their experiences in a very different one.
Multicultural Activities For Early Childhood
These toys allow adults to discuss differences and similarities naturally as children see them at play, as questions arise, or not at all. The goal is not to turn playtime into lectures, on the contrary, to offer a surprisingly diverse set of options and to arouse curiosity and to observe and accept diversity as normal.
Planning Naidoc Week
Integrative Soft Dolls – these dolls include a child who uses a wheelchair, a child who is visually impaired and uses a seeing eye dog, a child with a prosthetic arm, and a child with leg supports and crutches.
Baby Basket – I love these soft little dolls so much that I bought them for my daughter when she was little. They are perfect for a small classroom where children love to walk around the room with the baby because they are soft and have a lot in one basket! Also, the basket is great for grocery store pretend play.
4 Multinational Dolls Set – What I love about this set is that there are both boy and girl dolls. As preschoolers explore their identities, it’s common for them to become preoccupied with all things gender-specific. Having boy dolls can help encourage some more reluctant boys to explore doll play, although I caution never to force it, just give the tools if needed. Puppet play is a great tool to explore compassion, responsibility and caring for others.
Multicultural Duplo People – I wish there was a way to get this set for less. The thing is, this set will last and have a problem representing the daily play for years and years of students. Duplo isn’t a fad, so you know you’ll be able to use these templates in your block center for years to come.

Haba Children of The World Mix & Match puzzles like these are always popular with preschoolers, and not only do they encourage variety, they also develop fine motor skills!
Never Forget a Face was a favorite in my junior high class many years ago. The game is fun and works on memory skills too.
The Memory of the Children of the World is beautiful not only because of the visible diversity, but because the diversity is not only what we see, it is what we hear as well. This game also includes language diversity.
Friends and Neighbors – This game is not about diversity, the same game is about emotions, but the game itself encourages cooperation which is important to install.
Why Do We Celebrate Cultural Diversity In Childcare?
Different Skin Tones Pins – These are perfect if you’re going to make people with pins, even if you only have Caucasian students, I’d like to encourage you to separate your artwork to help show that light skin tone isn’t the same thing. skin tone only available.
Multi-Colour Crayons – Self-portraits and family drawings are an important part of preschool, and that makes these crayons a must-have for all children’s classrooms.
Multicultural Paper People – I use these in my class when we talk about first aid and my students cover them with bandaids, trust me they are a class favorite. This is an easy way to reinforce the idea that skin color is not the same.
Multicultural Family Puzzles give kids a look at different types of families while promoting the development of spatial skills and concentration.
Bilingual Language Activity
I use cards like these when I teach about families as a circle time activity where we count family members in several pictures and note that families are different. You can use these numbered cards as math puzzles, find two sets and play the same game, or as posters in a collage.
These family calculators are great, yes the people are all basic colors but there is an amazing mix of shapes and sizes, so students can create their own families no matter how many parents, what gender, or how many siblings.
There are many specialty play foods available, and while I think those sets are adorable, I’m focusing on sets that represent more cultures.

My child’s calendar includes various holidays. Be sure to welcome and celebrate these days in your classroom. You can even decorate the classroom with different celebrations of cultural holidays like Christmas, Eid, Hannukkah, etc.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Theme For Your Preschool Classroom
How are we all alike? How are we a little different? What makes us different? Make a craft that will encourage the child to focus on the different physical characteristics of people from different countries. The People Shapes project kit was perfect for this! It included tacky glue and everything you see below minus the trays.
The paper doll set comes in a variety of skin color options so kids can create and celebrate all races. They are also gender neutral so they can be adapted to the child’s creativity.
We have been focusing this week on India and Mexico. So he started building a little girl from India and Mexico. She noticed that the Indian girl was wearing many shiny sequins on her dress and added these to her paper doll.
My 8 year old really enjoyed this project. It was really hard for my three year old to do, as he needed a lot of help with gluing and cutting the little parts and pieces. This activity is suitable for older students.
