What I like: Amazing natural scenery with a variety of outdoor, forest and water backgrounds; plus several buildings with brick and stone textures available for a variety of looks.

What I love: A beautiful field with scenic New England views, and if you time it right (mid/late summer) you’ll get Queen Anne’s lace flowers as far as the eye can see.

What I like: Lots of different textures, backgrounds and different building styles within walking distance. Downtown Amherst is perfect for those looking for modern senior portraits and a sleek look.

What I love: Honestly, everything. Bright red barns, a flower garden and, of course, an apple orchard. This is perfect for those who want a rustic look for their senior portraits. *Call and ask for permission to shoot here in advance and respect the hosts and the apple trees*

What I love: It’s ya girl’s alma mater, and it’s also such a fun place to shoot. This place is a one stop shop. A great town, beautiful scenery, a pond, gardens and literally any backdrop you could want, all in one place. You have buildings built between the 1950s and 2020s. For anyone who isn’t sure what look they want, this campus is a great place to shoot and find out which backgrounds interest you.

Hawaii Photographer: High School Senior Portraits Ideas

What I love: flowers. Lots of flowers. There is also a really cool boathouse and lake. The Smith College Botanical Garden offers two main views: bright, cheerful colors among the flowers and a cool, casual look at the boathouse. *Check their photography policy before taking photos*

What I love: Hectares of beautiful landscaping and all the flowers you could want. Tower Hill Botanic Gardens has a lot to offer: an elegant greenhouse filled with tropical plants, brick buildings with sparkling fountains and what seems like every flower, tree and shrub known to man. There is a fee to film here, but I personally think it’s worth the cost. *Check their photography policy before taking photos*

(I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out.) What I love: This green door covered in creepers, the stone memorial building, and lots of nice green space for photos. It’s a great place for a natural backdrop and a casual feel to your photos.

What I love: Forest Park in general has acres of beautiful green space for photos, but I especially love the unique look of the Carriage House and surrounding gardens. The Carriage House will feature bright colors and an almost dollhouse feel, as well as some very unique gardens, landscaping and water features throughout the park.

With all the activities and responsibilities of high school seniors, it can be difficult to squeeze in senior portraits. In my experience, senior portraits are something that most high school students really like πŸ™‚ They can be used on social media, sent to friends and family, and if you’re planning a party, they can be used on invitations. Here are some ideas for when is the best time to shoot senior portraits.

Cranbrook Senior Photos Are Only Available To Cranbrook Students

One of the best tips I can give for scheduling is to schedule a session during the week. Weekend sessions have many advantages over weekends. If it’s a busy time of year for photography, weekdays are usually much easier to find a day and time with your Photographer. I also like to schedule my senior portraits during the week because most parks or locations are much less busy. Isabella’s session was on a weekday, and the park was almost empty. So easy to find parking, less people in the background. In my experience, it makes it more comfortable when there are fewer people around. Especially if you are all dressed up and posing for pictures πŸ™‚

The best time to shoot senior portraits can also be half a day from school. Leaving school early will make it easier to go to school, prepare for class, and have enough time for class. This is especially useful if you need to do hair and makeup during the session. One of the worst things you can do is rush to get ready for your session, so planning a day when there’s less to do is a good idea.

Finally, the best time of day for any outdoor portraits will be in the evening. In the evening, the lighting is soft and flattering. And in most cases, the lighting is very bright and colorful. Often, depending on the location of the session, the bright colors of the sun come through the trees because the sun is low in the sky.

What is the best time of day to shoot senior portraits is a question I often get. The answer is… it really depends. It depends on the light I want to shoot and the lighting I may or may not bring.

Urban Senior Portrait Session In The Fall

If I want bright light downtown, the best time of day to shoot seniors will be different than if I want to do bright boho photography outdoors. This is because it all depends on the style of filming we are going for.

Luckily, we plan all of this weeks ahead with our senior portrait session consultations. We meet with each senior weeks before the shoot to plan style, location, wardrobe and all the details.

Many of our seniors and parents have never done this and have no idea what to expect.

This consultation is just one of the many things we do to help them prepare and make sure they know what to expect every step of the way.

What Is The Best Time Of Day To Take Senior Pictures?

When I go out on location to shoot, almost every decision I make is based on how the lighting will be in a certain place at a certain time.

The goal is to get as many amazing images as possible with as little fuss as possible when it comes to lighting.

This allows me to provide my clients with tons of quality images that show all the different sides of their personality, because that’s the goal at the end of the day.

Top 5 Reasons To Take Professional Senior Portraits

You will notice that east is not listed. In the morning, you can definitely get some amazing senior portraits. I think the style that our seniors come to us for makes it difficult to reach in the mornings.

The light is much cooler in the morning, so it’s harder to get a warm background image at this time

Add to that the fact that basically all of our older girls have their hair and makeup done professionally. That means getting up and starting at 5am
