I mean, these pictures can be very close, and there are some things that you only want your eyes to see, and the eyes of your friends. In addition, arranging a photo shoot can be time-consuming and out of your current budget. So to top it all off, as well as the photo panty selfie, I’m here to show you how to take some great boudoir style photos yourself! And with your phone no less! So let’s get to it!
How To Become A Boudoir Photographer (the Ethical Way)
Before you say “But Hannah, I don’t have a tripod.” First of all, you don’t have to – grab a chair, grab some books, use a TV tray table, your clothes, whatever, get creative! As long as it’s the right height, you’re good to go! But, if you want to order a tripod, here’s one I have from Amazon!
*Tip:* To find out how high you need to store the object, or set your tripod accordingly, just lower it until you see what you want the camera to capture, then Make sure your phone’s camera is at your eye level, whatever height is possible.
Again, if you don’t have a tripod, just put whatever you use to hold your phone up against the wall, that’s what will give you this shot!
*Tip:* Instead of zooming while taking a photo, try placing the camera on your bed, close to you and slightly above eye level to get this angle!
How Boudoir Can Improve Your Confidence
I know you all are like waiting…huh? It sounds hard, but once you get the hang of it you’ll be taking photos like this all the time! So I used one of those little cereal boxes, you know the ones that come with like a 10-pack of different kinds of cereal? This or a cardboard box of the same size. Then I just cut off the floppy ends, and reinforced them with duct tape. Look – not hard! Then, you just tape it to the ceiling. I’d say it stays on easier, better and with less tape on a smooth roof, but if you have a popcorn roof just be sure to use a lot of tape. And no, it doesn’t replace the missing popcorn.
So once you’re ready to get it all ready, you just turn on the self-timer (or sync your phone with the remote) and slide it into the box with the camera attached! Look! Not as hard as you thought right? Honestly the hardest part about it is getting into position quickly if you don’t have a remote. I recently lost mine so I did it without it. I just put it on a 10 second timer, press the volume up button

It quickly became a challenge to do this regularly and set yourself up every time. Of course, there were flops. Thousands of photos that were immediately deleted. Dozens of times those pictures turned out differently than I imagined…in a good way…..and dozens of times those pictures turned out differently than I imagined, “EEEEEWWW, Oh my God.” . no!” kind of
Looking back at all of them over the years makes me realize that I am indeed growing as a photographer, as a confident woman and as a self-portrait artist. I believe in practicing what you preach, no matter what your passion or profession.
Recently, a “friend” of mine (I guess that’s what I call other photographers, right?!), wrote an article on FStoppers featuring an earlier article of mine on the boudoir business. About what I think this is most important for boudoir photographers. Practice what they preach. Sorry for the run on sentence.
I want to reiterate a few points, as I know many boudoir photographers read this blog. But I also want to show my clients and potential clients reading this that I have actually put myself in your shoes more times than I can count. I know how it feels to see an ugly image of yourself, and I know how powerful an amazing image of yourself can be.
Self Portraits In A Boudoir Living Room Picture And Hd Photos
If you’re a boudoir photographer—more than any other kind of photographer because it’s so emotional and personal to our clients—you absolutely must understand what it’s like to be in their shoes. They are nervous about you to the point of shock, they trust you to make them strong and not feel insecure anymore. They believe you are an expert. To become an expert… a truly expert… you need to never stop learning. Self-portraits are a wonderful way to work towards getting there.
It was through self-portraiture that my style developed into what it is at the moment. I learned that I was more attracted to the less posed, more “damaged” type of photos. dark Greater emotion. Black and white and white and black. If I had only shot clients, I probably never would have discovered how much I loved keeping things bright and clean and happy.

And as I go on about feeling amazing about myself through boudoir photos to my clients…HEY. This applies to me too. I need a lift, a boost, a “hey girl, you still got it!” every now and then. Especially now that I’m actually getting around to taking pictures of myself…it’s a really amazing demonstration of how looking really good in a photo can be a huge confidence boost.

“I’m a hairy dude. Not a pretty woman.” But what. bad.?! Men deserve to feel good too. Male boudoir photographers also need to know what it’s like to be in front of the camera. This will be an excellent learning exercise.
“I’m overweight.” oh So.Parting.What!? I can guarantee that you are telling your clients to embrace boudoir photos because they are right now. How can you say this and not put yourself in the same situation, regardless of your current physical appearance? And yes, you will get all those “instantly faded” pictures, but it will make you appreciate your art and yourself as an artist. And the more you contribute to your project, the fewer “instant delete” photos you’ll get.
“I don’t have a beautiful studio.” Nor when I started this project. And most of my favorite selfies weren’t taken in my beautiful studio at all, although it’s a little more convenient because it’s kid-free. Learn to use what you have, whatever it is. Another learning exercise. Put yourself in challenging lighting positions. Keep yourself in small spaces. Work with zero closets. Work without professional makeup. Push yourself…it’s the only way to get better.
“I tried once, and I was scared for life.” All other reasons to try again. I appreciate you doing it more the second time than the first.
How To Make The Booty Look Bigger In A Boudoir Shoot
“Because it’s illegal.” no. This is field research. I personally feel that sharing them shows (some of) my clients and potential clients that boudoir photography is nothing to be ashamed of. That you should be proud of your pictures. However, you obviously don’t need to share it publicly if you don’t really feel comfortable with it. But that shouldn’t stop you from buying them! I’m definitely saving a lot of photos for this one
