I don’t know about you, but for me, I don’t have $1,600 to save every month right before Christmas.

Many people can start the challenge but then fail after running out of extra money after 6 weeks. The reason these challenges fail is because the challenge to save money starts out slow, but then increases the savings as time goes on. The system just doesn’t work for people who aren’t used to saving or people who work with smaller budgets.

It’s like following someone on their financial journey when they posted that they paid $40,000 in 2 months, but then you find out they make 6x more income than you. Well, shoot, if I had that much money, I’d be sitting around a lot too, wouldn’t I?

So for us, even in the midst of our tight budget with all these extra expenses to pay, we’ve set a goal to get our savings back by the end of the year. We actually have three different savings accounts that serve a different purpose and two need serious attention. Having paid off two mortgages and living a debt-free lifestyle, I know it’s possible to build up our savings even on a tight budget. It just takes some specific strategies.
