Rated 1 out of 5 by Mandarose33 from Great But Tracks. We bought this last weekend, after looking at other sets. I like that it is very large, e.g. At this price point. However, no matter what configuration we use, it won’t stay on the tracks. They are easy to set up, but when trains run on them, the tracks tend to separate slightly, causing the train or any car to derail. I spent three hours trying to configure different tracks and cars, and still couldn’t get the train to make one full trip around the track without derailing. It’s very rugged and won’t tangle, so my toddler uses the remote control to run it down the hallway. Also, it needs 4 C, 3 AAA and 1 9v (for the remote control you need for the music part) batteries to run. We appreciated that only two cars needed batteries; Each car uses 4 batteries. All this aside, it will be easier to keep it than to pack it all up to pay it back. I am still looking for a better quality version of this.

Like many here, was frustrated that this train kept falling off the track because the weight of the batteries was causing the whole thing to lean backwards. This prevents the front wheels from resting on the track and causing the whole thing to derail. I think this is due to an assembly problem. The rear wheels can be installed in two different ways. With the locomotive sitting flat on the drive wheels, I realized that the rear wheels were actually higher than the drive wheels – so it leaned back. I removed the small screw on the actual wheel assembly, flipped the rear wheel assembly over, then screwed it back into place. Problem solved!! I gave 4 stars because of this final assembly issue that caused me and many others grief. Otherwise it looks like a fun little addition around our tree.

I bought another one this year to replace it, but this one doesn’t work at all (it seems to have a faulty on/off switch). I give up – the manufacturer can’t seem to produce a consistent product and I’ve wasted a lot of time going to the store for pickups and returns.
