Rated 1 out of 5 by mandarose33 from Great, but the tracks DO NOT WORK. We bought this last weekend after looking around. I love that it’s so big, especially. at this price point. However, it will not stay on the roads, no matter which configuration we use. They are easy to install, but when the train runs over them, the tracks diverge slightly, causing the train or one of the cars to derail. I spent three hours trying different configurations of tracks and cars, and I still couldn’t get the train to go almost completely around the track without derailing. It’s not too thin and bulky, so my kid uses the remote to move it down the hall. Also remember, it takes 4 C, 3 AAA and 1 9v (for the remote you need for the music part) batteries to run. We appreciated that only two cars needed batteries, as opposed to each car using 4 batteries. All this aside, it will be easier to save it, than to collect it for return. I am still on the hunt for a better version of this.

Like many others here I was frustrated that this train kept derailing because the weight of the batteries of all things was pulling back. This prevents the front wheels from staying on the road so the whole thing comes off the road. I think this is due to the assembly problem. The rear wheels can be installed in 2 different ways. I realized that when the locomotive sits on the drive wheels, the rear wheels are actually higher than the drive wheels – so it rolls backwards. I unscrewed the small screw on the actual wheel assembly, screwed the rear wheel assembly on, and then screwed it into place. Problem solved!! I gave 4 stars because of this last assembly problem that caused me and many others. Plus, it looks like a fun little addition is hanging around our tree.

I bought another one this year to replace it but this one doesn’t work at all (apparently has a plug/cut switch). I give up – it seems the manufacturer can’t make a durable product and I wasted a lot of time going to the store to pick it up and return it.

Maybe $30 on some kind of sale…you and your Community would be better off giving $60 to a local charity for the holiday season!!!!! Or pay $60 for an authentic model train set and buy some Christmas-themed trains and cars.
