Put together a Christmas picture and practice the letters too! I have two different pictures to choose from in this post. One is a nativity scene and the other is a scene with Santa.

I love this activity because it’s easy and hands-on. Use duct tape to design the tree on the ground. Be sure to test a small area before using duct tape to make sure you won’t damage any of your floors. Then invite your child to use larger blocks (like Mega Blocks or Duplo Blocks) to fill the tree.

This is the easiest science experiment and perfect for toddlers and older kids. You only need candy, baking soda, vinegar and food coloring. Watch the full trial here.

Parents may not like bells, but kids sure do! So, here’s a tutorial on how to make 2 different jingle bell bracelets.

Use Dulo LEGO bricks to make Christmas pictures. Free printables for this activity are on this post.

Practice identifying the letters of the alphabet with this simple activity. Write letters on the tree (using this printable) and then write matching lowercase letters on dot stickers. Have your child place a sticker on the corresponding letter.

A Christmas themed cutting board is a great way to work on fine motor skills. You can add many things to cut for preschoolers. Check out what I’ve added to our box on this post.

Christmas Crafts For Toddlers

Children love opening presents, so they love opening a new book to read every day! I like to rent books from the library and collect our Christmas books, then wrap them up and put them under our tree. Every day our little ones choose a book to copy and we read together. Find our favorite Christmas books here.

I love this activity because it builds strength for fine motor skills in little one’s hands. All you do is tear up a piece of paper, draw the shape of the tree on sticky sided contact paper, and then tape it to the wall. Then invite your little one to fill it with torn paper and any light weight tree.

Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s Almost Christmas!

Choosing books is one of my favorite things to do with each new class. Check out our favorite Christmas books here!

Phonics skills are a key building block for successful reading, which is why they should be practiced a little at a time every day. I like to use sound recognition games that go along with the current theme to keep things fresh and engaging. Click here to check out these Christmas phonics awareness games that will help your little ones become strong readers in less than 10 minutes a day (and with zero supplies!).

You’ll definitely want to start your Christmas class with these Christmas vocabulary cards! They are the perfect way to introduce your little ones to the vocabulary that goes along with this season. Write these words in your writing center as a class activity or you can use them as a picture match.

Focusing on the middle sounds in CVC words helps our young learners develop phonemic awareness and lays the foundation for reading. This vowel matching activity is great because it comes in two levels of cards…picture cards for our younger students practicing phonics and word cards for students who are ready to read CVC words on their own.

Who doesn’t love bingo?! It’s a popular game for a reason! This game comes with two bingo cards so you can play with your little one. You can modify this game to work on different skills… say letter names or sounds, or say three sounds that make up a CVC word and have them find all three at once!

Before you start writing letters directly with your preschooler, make sure you’re giving them opportunities to explore and create different lines. This will not only help them develop their fine motor skills, but also help them practice how to hold a pencil correctly, going from left to right when writing.

Are you writing a letter to Santa this year? Here’s a great FREEBIE for you! This download comes with five different Christmas pictures (each with two different fonts) so your preschooler can choose which one they like and create a personalized letter to Santa!

These free Christmas light letters can be used in many ways! Some interesting ideas include: using simple CVC to spell words; Use in a tray of salt or sand to practice spelling; Using play dough to shape each letter; glue your preschooler’s name on the Christmas tree; Use them to match uppercase and lowercase letters; Use them for color sorting.

Christmas Activities For Kids

In my classroom, I had my students match the letters of the Christmas lights to the clothing with the letter on it. I then had them put the letters in order from A-Z on the string on the wall, which was really fun and a great cooperative learning activity. It also worked their fine motor skills (opening and closing clothespins is great for developing those little muscles). They had a blast!

I love having my preschoolers use play dough to develop their hand muscles as a springboard to writing. These free play dough mats are so much fun because students roll the cube, name the mood, and then create that mood out of play dough on their Christmas tree. They can also write or build on their emotion words.

Salt trays are a wonderful multi-sensory activity for practicing letters in a hands-on, tactile way (and more fun than pencil and paper!) We used these free gingerbread letters in the salt tray and my kids had a great time!

These free gingerbread letters are great for a letter matching activity too! I added the little gingerbread letters to sentimental colored corn (see corn coloring instructions in this post!) and then made the little guy match the larger gingerbread houses.

Christmas Activities For Toddlers And Preschoolers

This was a fun whole-class activity from Play to Learn Preschool that my kids loved! We sang the song “BINGO” but replaced the letters with “Santa”. Every time we receive a letter, we say “HO”; So at the end of the song we were singing “HO HO HO HO HO HO” which was so funny! You can read more about it and download free Santa cards here.

Similar to Christmas Light Alphabet, this activity uses Christmas Light Numbers. Again, there are many ways to use these numbers…you can have your little ones put them in numerical order, count them.
