Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Here are 27 fun teen camping activities and camp games. I’m sure you’ll find at least one who loves them!

Something to keep in mind when planning these camp activities is that teenagers love to use their phones…I mean a lot. Crafts For Teens & Tweens: 50 Awesome Ideas!

In fact, especially for new youth campers, the first way to bridge that gap from regular home life to camp life can be through a fun activity…on their phone (like geocaching!).

There is a wide variety of different camping activities – remember that your teen is unique and the camping activities they like may not be the same as what you like at this age. Just because as a kid, you fish from dusk till dawn doesn’t mean they will.

So scroll down this post to brainstorm some camp activities to do with your teens, whether it’s at summer camp or an actual campsite!

Best Vacation Ideas For Families With Teenagers

Even if the campground you’re going to doesn’t have a lot of riding space, you can make the most of it with some easy “jumps,” obstacle courses, or hitting the balance beam! Bring shovels, walkie-talkies, and maybe a few bucks to encourage some fun competition!

Unless you know how cool rocks are, they all look the same. But once your kids can identify some rocks (pick up a local geology identification guide/book), they’ll be more interested in the nature around them!

Try these rock identification challenges to help keep teens engaged on camping trips: identify the most common rocks, the rarest rocks, the most interesting rocks, the largest rocks, etc.

To make rock collecting even more interesting, see if you can get a piece of rock. It’s great to see what “normal” stones still look like after a few weeks of tumbling and polishing!

If you are a teenager, you know that they love suicide! So why not try a spontaneous scavenger hunt camp game?

Yes, it’s just a normal scavenger hunt but with a fun, digital twist… a selfie with everything! Young campers everywhere love the latest trends, funny faces, and a little competition in this photo camping scavenger hunt.

There’s something very fun about making the jumps, seeing who can get through the course the fastest, and the teamwork that can come with it! RC cars are great for camping around and challenging each other in different courses.

This is a camping activity that is great for teenagers. Yes, it involves using a phone or GPS, but it’s 100% worth it!

The Geocaching app involves finding “geocaches” (small containers containing logs/trinkets) through their map. It feels like a giant treasure hunt game – just make sure to leave something small but fun when you find one!

No… I’m not saying your kids should play with fire. 😋 But there are some fun teen camping activities you can do all around the campfire.

Teens love to take any chance to prove they’re the best, so give them practice building a campfire while having some friendly challenges! I like this video (a screenshot is below) as a refresher on the types of campfires.

Journaling is a great way to practice storytelling, keep memories, and inspire some creativity! Place some camp journals like these around the picnic table. They include tips and encourage youth who are otherwise “one word” to enhance their camping experience!

And on that note, bring more than one hammock – I only made the mistake of bringing one, and there were five of us who wanted to use it!

Not only are hammocks a great place to relax, but I’ve seen teenagers really enjoy some privacy. Whether it’s reading a book or keeping in touch with friends through their phones, I guarantee they’ll happily spend a lot of time in one if available!

(I’m pictured below with my hammock just for me and hidden by the side of a cliff LOL)

You can have one person create a scene for the rest of the group. Or you can change it to work as teams. Simply place the card on your forehead instead of looking at it for your teammate to act on, and you try to guess!

Fun Goal Setting Activities For Children

Even if it’s something very simple, young people secretly do something like responsibility and get involved in planning! After catching a ton of fish, my brother-in-law actually had the seasonings, lemons and foil that needed to be prepared and cooked over the fire – see picture below!! It was delicious!

Fishing, kayaking, rock hunting, biking, mountain biking, hiking, etc… There are many campgrounds that have access to these types of activities. Encourage your teen to do some phone research on potential campgrounds ahead of time so they can participate in the decision.

And of course, I like this option because when I hear from them that they are “bored” at camp, I can remind them that they helped choose it! I never thought I would be like this, but teenagers will change you!

Fun Activities For Teenagers At Home

If your teen has hit the “my parents are super ignorant” stage, then bringing a friend can make them more excited for a weekend camping trip. Most teenagers are naturally super social, and the freedom to have their own tent (including setting them up!) will be fantastic for their confidence!

Plus, most teens will be more willing to participate in other camping activities – board games, storytelling, hiking, etc. – When they have a friend.

Adding a twist to things they are already familiar with is fun and easy! This emoji-themed camp scavenger hunt game will get kids laughing, getting creative, and most of all… keep busy exploring around camp!

If you’ve ever heard of the games Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a teen/kid-friendly version that they’ll love (and that won’t miss the laughs!).

“What do you remember?” Uses recognizable, viral memes and funny questions to see which can best match the situation.

I always like to play card games or board games on hand. And although you should always keep a traditional deck of cards around, a fun card game is perfect for a rainy day or a late night laugh together!

Everything glows in the dark is sure to be a hit, but the Jedi sword tag is just a whole different level! I love that this glitter sword play set includes TEN swords so everyone and their friends can play. Best of all, hits don’t deal damage, so you won’t be breaking up constant fights between brothers who accuse each other of “hitting too hard”. = p

If you don’t want to spend the money, though, there are a ton of cute DIY glow-in-the-dark toys!

Finding the perfect shaped stones, thinking of something special, and creating a design that glows in the dark is so much fun! We love finding colorful rocks here and there. Many, many people create beautiful rock art just to hide and amaze others! =)

Fun Indoor Games For Kids When They Are Stuck Inside

Paracord bracelets not only look good but can come in handy around camp. Here is a video you can use as a guide.

For older children it is good to establish a single slow line. If your kids are small, just keep the line low to the ground and add a secondary guide line a few feet up and down (like you see in this video).

Instead of inventing new camp games, why not bring portable versions of classic backcountry games to the campground?

Cornholes and other classic yard games also work as camping games! The portable versions are much less bulky than their full-size counterparts, so they’re easy to just leave in the camper. Games like these are also a great way for your teen to meet new friends or connect with family.

Fun Circle Time Games And Activities: A Must For Any Teacher

I like a simple bean bag toss/cornhole game like this, but you can also see if they have a lightweight portable version of your backyard favorite!

It’s worth investing in some outdoor skills books (especially ones that include activities they can do at camp!).

Time at camp is a great time to work on learning a new outdoor skill, whether it’s learning about native plants, survival skills, shelter building, whittling, etc.
