Use a black sharpie or marker to make small dots on the white paper. Cut small squares from different colored paper and put them in a bowl (if possible, you can ask your child to cut the paper). Tape a piece of white paper to the table (so the kiddos don’t move around while you’re working), and place it on the bowl with colored squares and Elmer’s glue.
What will they do? Use Elmer’s glue to practice placing “small dots” of glue covering each black dot on the white paper. Then take a colored square to stick on each glue dot.

But when it comes to liquid glue, “A dot is BIG” (not that the whole bottle needs to come out every time they glue something)- trust me, as a former preschool/kindergarten teacher, this is VERY important. skills are theirs 😉
Preparation: Write your child’s name, letters, numbers, shapes, or any skill you want to work with on a white paper. Add do-a-dot markers and tape the paper to the table so it doesn’t move around while your child is working.
What will they do? Use a do-a-dot marker to put dots on top of the letters of their name (or whatever skill you chose to work on).
Get a piece of white paper and write down the skills you want your child to practice. You can choose to draw straight lines or any type of line (curved, zigzag, etc.), have them draw shapes, letters, names, or numbers. Put some paint on a paper plate or some kind of small cup or container, and attach a q-tip. You can also give the option for different colors and if you want to give more q-tips.

Take a long piece of white paper and put brown paint on it. Place some repair trucks.
Fill a small tub with water and dish soap (be sure to turn the water up when filling the tub so the soap comes out). Throw in the dirt truck (see previous painting with truck action) and the sponge, and put a small towel or washcloth to dry.
What will they do? Use the sponge and soapy water to wash the paint off the truck, and let it dry.
Dyeing white rice (details on how to do this can be found in this blog). Pour the colored rice into a clear plastic bowl. Trace each shaped magnet onto a large piece of white paper (you can use coordinating colored markers to trace each shape, or not, depending on how challenging you want the task to be). I have also written the name of each shape but that part is not necessary. Place the magnetic shapes in the bin with the colored rice and stick the large white paper on the fridge or other magnetic area.

Sieve the colored rice to find the magnetic shapes, identify them, and find the matching shapes on the white piece of paper.
Dyeing white rice (details on how to do this can be found in this blog). Pour the colored rice into a clear plastic bowl. Place the puzzle in the rice bin with the rice (I also added magnetic numbers for fun because we were working on numbers and counting). Place the rest of the puzzle on the floor next to the bin.
Sift the rice to find the puzzles that complete the puzzle. We also read several books/counts that went with our puzzles.
Fill a small bowl with water, dish soap, and a sponge (be sure to turn the water up when filling the bowl so the soap comes out). Fill another small plastic container with shaving cream and mix it to a decent brown color. Place the tub of soapy water and the small container of cooking oil/brown color in the large storage bin with the piglets. Keep a washcloth or small towel near the dryer for wet and clean pigs.

Pretend to play that the pig gets messy in the mud, then rinse/wash it clean and dry. Play again!
Pour the soap bottle into the water bottle (yes, the whole bottle- buy the cheap stuff!) on your water table and use a hose to fill it up so it’s bubbling like crazy.
The night before, or in the morning, fill the refrigerator with juice and water (per portion) for the next day or later in the afternoon. Once the poms are cool, dump the ice cream into a freezer, and use scoops, shovels, and muffin tins for sorting.
Roll out the cooled pom poms and arrange them in different sections of the muffin tin, or transfer the colorful cubes to a separate bowl or container. You can also add hot water to a small bowl of pipettes/eyedroppers, or a plastic bottle/spray bottle filled with hot water to try and “rescue” the pom-poms (or melt the ice).

Preparation: Pour the cleaned baguette into a bowl and add ice cream trays and scoops.

Preparation: Place each year’s colored play doh in a ball in the center of a serving dish. Place each seasonal object in a different area around the play doh in the middle.
Create! Play doh trays are the best because they simply invite children to play, discover, explore, create, imagine and learn. Completely open. Sit back and watch what they decide to do with the tools you’ve set up for them. 🙂
Summer Activities For Toddlers
Preparation: Place different colored toys depending on your color (we used rainbow colors with rainbow colored buttons). Place the button in a small container.
Sort the size and shape of the buttons by color. Buttons can be raised with play doh, or pressed to lay flat.
Print and laminate (or attach to plastic wrap) the play doh shaped mat. Place them on the play doh. For younger children, help start the process by rolling play doh into “snakes” that can be used to create shapes. I also gave her a play doh pump and play doh scissors.
Use play doh to make/build the shapes on the different mats. The mat also includes different shaped words on the bottom that can be traced with dry erase markers for kiddos who are willing to do so.
Preschool Learning: Practice Line Activities For 3 Year Olds
Place the magnetic letters (we only used large letters with straight lines because these are the first ones children will learn to write) in small containers and place them with play doh on a metal cookie sheet .
What will they do? Take a piece of paper and place it on a plate. Start by rolling the play doh into a snake, and then use the snake to form each letter of your choice.
Use a piece of paper and markers, or a small whiteboard with dry erase markers to draw a digger on the left, a road (with a dotted line down the middle) going straight across, and a pile of mud on the right ( Place on the other side, the book “Make a lot of noise”, with appropriate writing materials.
